That's like the size of a quarter, but spread over an area of 152cm.
Jun 25, 2013 · Most tires for sale use the 90/90-21" reference. They are identical size. The rear should be: 120/90-17 or 130/90-17. Either size is fine on the DR650. the 120 size is OEM size but a 130 works perfectly as well. The middle number is not critical and can vary. Usually either an 80 or 90. Refers to profile and height. Rear tire in SAE sizing:
90/80-R17 tires are 0.71 inches (18 mm) smaller in diameter than 90/90-R17 tires and the speedometer difference is 3.1%.
One of the more popular tire setups for the Yamaha WR250R is to run a Pirelli MT-21 (size 90/90-21) on the front and a Dunlop D606 (size 120/90-18) on the rear. The MT-21's work great on the front of the WR250R and will often go 4-5000 miles before they need replaced. The D606's work great on the rear of the WR250R.

All other things being equal, a wider tire should actually be a bit harder to lean into turns than a narrower one (the difference between a 90-90 and a 90-100 won't be much). BUT the effect of 20 years of gradually getting harder combined with the worn tread profile Randall mentioned
If you read 120/70 – 12 51 S, it means: 120 indicates the width of the tire (in millimeters) 70 indicates the aspect ratio (between height and width) 12 is the rim size (in inches) 51 refers to the speed rating.
